A Bounty of Tulsi
Our Tulsi (Holy Basil) always does very well, but this year we planted some in the greenhouse with the drip irrigation so we wouldn’t have soil splashing up on it. Wow, it really loves the greenhouse!
We definitely grow way more medicinal plants than we can use ourselves, and since we’re not doing the farm or herbal products business I guess we are growing all of this for the love of the plants, plus some teas and tinctures here and there. Too many years of thinking about how to make it a business in this capitalist framework, and then deciding not to has left me unsure of my plant path. (Other than growing for ourselves.) We had thought sharing with friends would be a good way to go, but it seems most of our nearby friends aren’t really into herbal remedies. I think with the herb farm idea, it was less about wanting to commodify the plants and more about connecting with like minded people. Until some deeper insight hits me I’ll keep growing the plants for us, the pollinators, and other creatures who enjoy them.
